Embodiment of Compassion and Action

This magnificent brass statue portrays the revered Tibetan Buddhist deity, Green Tara, a powerful female bodhisattva known for her swift compassion and protective blessings. Standing at an impressive size, this artwork is a testament to the rich artisanal traditions of India, where it has been meticulously handcrafted. The goddess is depicted in her iconic posture of readiness, seated gracefully upon a multi-layered lotus throne. Her left leg is drawn up, while her right leg is extended, signifying her constant preparedness to descend and offer aid to all sentient beings. This posture, known as the "royal ease" or "pralambapada," is a symbol of her dynamic engagement with the world.

Divine Adornments and Symbolic Significance

Green Tara is adorned with exquisite jewelry that speaks to her regal status and spiritual power. Her torso is draped in a vibrant turquoise-colored robe, inlaid with small, tessellated pieces that mimic precious stones. This is complemented by a striking red lower garment, also embellished with the same mosaic-like inlay. The rich red symbolizes her passionate energy and life-force, while the turquoise embodies her skillful means and wisdom. She wears a magnificent crown, intricately carved and bejeweled, signifying her enlightened awareness. In her right hand, she holds the stem of a blooming lotus, a profound symbol of purity, enlightenment, and the unfolding of spiritual potential, while her left hand rests in the gesture of bestowing blessings and fearlessness. The presence of lotuses on either side of her signifies her ability to navigate the muddy waters of samsara without being tainted.

Tales of Green Tara's Grace

In Buddhist lore, Green Tara is said to have emerged from a tear of compassion shed by the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, who wept upon witnessing the immense suffering in the world. Her emerald green complexion signifies her active, swift, and fearless nature, embodying the enlightened activity of all Buddhas. She is invoked for protection against the eight great fears – pride, ignorance, anger, jealousy, wrong views, avarice, miserliness, and attachment – and is believed to grant longevity, wisdom, and the ability to overcome obstacles. Her devotees turn to her in times of distress, seeking her immediate intervention and guidance.

A Masterpiece of Indian Craftsmanship

This large-scale statue is not merely a religious artifact but a work of art that showcases the pinnacle of Indian brass craftsmanship. The intricate details, from the delicate carving of her facial features and serene expression to the ornate patterns on her throne and the flowing drapery of her garments, are a testament to the skill and dedication of the artisans. The use of inlaid stones adds a captivating dimension, imbuing the statue with color and texture. This piece, handmade in India, is destined to be a focal point in any sacred space, a shrine room, or a meditation corner, radiating an aura of peace, protection, and profound spiritual energy.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
