The Benevolent Presence of Green Tara

This exquisite large-sized statue depicts Green Tara, a revered female bodhisattva in Tibetan Buddhism, symbolizing compassion, wisdom, and action. Her serene countenance radiates a sense of peace and gentle power, inviting contemplation and spiritual connection. The statue is masterfully crafted from brass, showcasing the meticulous artistry and dedication inherent in traditional Indian metalwork. The striking contrast between the rich, lustrous gold finish of her face, arms, and legs, and the deep, almost iridescent black patina of her robes, adds a profound depth and visual appeal.

Symbolism and Iconography

Green Tara is often depicted seated in a relaxed posture, her left leg tucked in a meditative pose and her right leg extended, ready to spring into action to aid sentient beings. This dynamic stance signifies her readiness to respond to prayers and alleviate suffering. Her right hand is held in the *abhaya mudra*, a gesture of fearlessness and protection, while her left hand rests in her lap, holding the stem of a lotus flower, a symbol of purity and enlightenment. The lotus itself, often shown in full bloom, represents the blossoming of wisdom and compassion. The elaborate crown and ornate jewelry adorning her further emphasize her divine status and regal bearing. The intricate patterns etched into her lower garments speak to the rich tapestry of Buddhist symbolism, hinting at the profound teachings and universal truths she embodies.

A Testament to Craftsmanship

Handmade in India, this statue is a testament to the enduring legacy of skilled artisans who have passed down their techniques through generations. The use of brass allows for the fine detailing and the creation of a durable and timeless piece. The patina achieved through traditional methods not only enhances the visual aesthetics but also imbues the sculpture with an antique charm, suggesting a deep connection to the sacred traditions it represents. The scale of the statue makes it a commanding presence, suitable for dedication in a temple, meditation space, or as a significant piece of art for the discerning collector. Its substantial size and intricate detailing are sure to captivate and inspire all who behold it.

The Legend of Tara

According to legend, Tara was born from a tear shed by the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara as he contemplated the suffering of the world. Her compassionate heart was so vast that a lotus flower bloomed from the tear, and from this flower, she arose. She vowed to be reborn in forms that would guide all beings to enlightenment, and her green form is particularly associated with swift action and overcoming obstacles. She is seen as a protector against the eight great fears – pride, ignorance, anger, envy, wrong views, attachment, miserliness, and delusion – offering solace and guidance to those who call upon her. This magnificent brass representation serves as a tangible link to these profound spiritual narratives, bringing the benevolent energy of Green Tara into your space.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
