36" Large Wooden Lord Ganesha Standing on Lion

$956
Includes any tariffs and taxes

A solemn Ganesha dances on the back of the simha. In this iconography, the simha or lion functions as His vahana. This interesting detail is symbolic of the presence of Durga, His mother. The dancing stance, on the other hand, is symbolic of His father, Shiva. As such, this sculpture opens into the possibilities of Ganesha’s multifaceted personality.

Another indication of a supreme godhead is the snake dangling from one of His six hands (shashabhujadhari). It is a visual reference to the kaliya-daman episode from the life of Vishnuavatara Krishna. In the anterior hands of Ganesha, the laddoo and the broken tusk are most definitely Him.

A traditional-style wood-carved composition. Imbued with pale pastels that breathe life and detail into the theme. A solid charcoal-coloure background and a Kirtimukham motif at the zenith of the panel. Handsome black eyes swimming with life, of Ganesha and the simhavahana as well as the Kirtimukham.

The Mighty Remover of Obstacles: A Lord Ganesha Carving

Embrace the divine presence of Lord Ganesha, the beloved elephant-headed deity, with this magnificent wooden carving. Standing tall at an impressive 36 inches, this piece captures the essence of Ganesha’s benevolent power and his role as the remover of obstacles. Crafted from solid wood, the intricate detailing showcases the artistry of traditional South Indian craftsmanship, bringing a sense of ancient reverence to your space. The depiction of Ganesha is rich with symbolism. His multiple arms, a common iconography, signify his omnipresence and his ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. He is often depicted holding various divine attributes, such as a lotus, an axe, and his own broken tusk. In this particular carving, the dynamic pose and the tools held suggest his active role in dispelling hindrances and bestowing blessings. The gentle curvature of his trunk, the serene expression on his face, and the well-defined musculature speak to a deity who is both approachable and all-powerful.

Ganesha and His Vahana: The Lion

This remarkable carving features Lord Ganesha in a powerful stance, standing upon a majestic lion. The lion, known as the Simha in Sanskrit, is often considered the vehicle, or Vahana, of Ganesha in certain traditions. The lion represents strength, courage, and royalty. Its presence beneath Ganesha signifies his dominion over these qualities and his ability to conquer any adversity. The ferocious yet dignified expression of the lion, coupled with its muscular form, complements the divine stature of Ganesha, creating a harmonious and awe-inspiring composition. This imagery is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology, where deities are often depicted with their respective Vahanas, symbolizing their unique powers and characteristics.

A Symbol of Wisdom and Auspicious Beginnings

Lord Ganesha is revered as the god of wisdom, intellect, and prosperity, and is the patron of arts and sciences. He is invoked at the beginning of any undertaking, from writing a book to starting a new business, to ensure success and remove any potential obstacles. The act of carving such a divine figure from wood is a testament to the deep spiritual connection and artistic skill involved. The weathered, natural finish of the wood lends a timeless quality to the piece, making it a striking addition to any home, temple, or sacred space. This carving serves not only as a beautiful decorative item but also as a constant reminder of the divine grace and wisdom that can guide us through life's journey. The sheer scale of the piece ensures it will be a focal point, drawing admiration and inspiring contemplation.
