36" Wooden Goddess Lakshmi Seated on Lotus Pedestal

$1500
Includes any tariffs and taxes

The gentle Lakshmi, poised upon the belly of a gigantic lotus bloom. In Her posterior hands (She is the chaturbhujadharini), She holds fresh, green-stalked lotus blooms of a more realistic proportion. Indeed, the padma or lotus is an integral aspect of the Lakshmi Mata iconography. It is symbolic of Her serenity and purity of temper.

The Lakshmi murti that you see on this page is a wood-carved sculpture. In terms of aesthetics, it draws heavily from the temple architecture of ancient South India. Sculpted in almost symmetrical detail, but for the distinguished mudras of Her anterior hands and the lalitasana of Her limbs.

The colour palette is made up of soft, unassuming pastels, which look great against the natural, highly textured medium of wood. Such a murti would bring into your space the auspiciousness of a bygone era.

Embodiment of Prosperity and Grace

This exquisite wooden sculpture captures the divine essence of Goddess Lakshmi, the revered deity of wealth, fortune, and prosperity in Hindu tradition. Seated serenely on a blooming lotus pedestal, she embodies purity, beauty, and spiritual enlightenment. The rich, textured wood, meticulously carved by skilled artisans, lends a timeless and sacred aura to this magnificent piece.

The Divine Presence of Lakshmi

Lakshmi, also known as Shri, is one of the principal deities of Hinduism. She is the goddess of wealth, fortune, power, beauty, fertility, and prosperity. In mythology, she emerged from the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan) holding a lotus flower and a pot of gold, symbolizing her auspicious nature. She is the consort of Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, and it is believed that wherever Vishnu's presence is felt, Lakshmi also resides, bestowing blessings upon devotees. This statue, with its detailed craftsmanship, brings her benevolent presence into your home, inviting prosperity and good fortune.

Symbolism and Artistic Detail

The lotus, upon which Lakshmi is seated, is a powerful symbol in Hinduism, representing purity, beauty, and spiritual awakening. The unfolding petals signify the journey from the mundane to the divine. The multiple arms of the goddess in this depiction are indicative of her all-encompassing power and ability to bestow manifold blessings. The serene expression on her face, the graceful posture, and the intricate adornments all speak to the artistry and devotion invested in its creation. Each element of the sculpture is imbued with meaning, from the subtle curves of her form to the symbolic objects she might hold. This statue is not merely a decorative item but a sacred representation that can elevate the spiritual ambiance of any space.

A Timeless Treasure from South India

Hailing from the rich artistic heritage of South India, this statue reflects the region's deep-rooted traditions of religious art and craftsmanship. The wood medium itself carries a sense of natural elegance and warmth, often chosen for its spiritual resonance. This piece is a testament to the enduring legacy of artisanal skill passed down through generations. Its substantial size makes it a commanding presence, perfect for a focal point in your living room, meditation space, or as a distinguished addition to your collection of South Indian art. It serves as a constant reminder of the goddess's benevolent gaze and her power to usher in abundance and well-being into your life.
