Deepalakshmi is a special roopa of Devi Lakshmi. The word Deepalakshmi is a portmanteau of ‘deepa’, which means the flame of a dia, and Lakshmi, the Devi of abundance. When Lakshmi upholds a deepa in Her gentle hands and assumes a stance full of warmth and welcome, She becomes Deepalakshmi.
The Deepalakshmi that you see on this page is sculpted from pure brass. She is tall and lithe and adorned in the finest jewels of paraloka (otherworldly realm of existence). They bring out the beauty of Her fine-boned decolletage and lengths of Her limbs. Right above a superbly narrow waist, Her full, bare breasts protrude forward as a sign of fecundity.
The colour finish of this Deepalakshmi murti lies somewhere along the crimson to brown gradient. It is at once feminine and earthy and powerful. Note the high-precision handiwork of the artisan at the long-fingered hands that hold the dia, the luxuriant detailing on Her attire and adornments, and the tall, engraved crown on Her head.
