Lord Hanuman lifted a mountain in one of the most well-known tales from the Indian epic, the Ramayana. During the battle of Lanka, Lakshmana, brother of Lord Rama, was critically wounded by an arrow from the demon king Ravana's son, Indrajit. To save his life, Hanuman was tasked with fetching the Sanjeevani, a life-restoring herb that grew on the Dronagiri mountain in the Himalayas.

Upon reaching the mountain, Hanuman was unable to identify the specific herb. In a display of his immense devotion and strength, he lifted the entire mountain and flew it back to the battlefield so that the medicinal herb could be found in time to heal Lakshmana. This act is often cited as an example of Hanuman's incredible power and his unwavering dedication to Lord Rama.

Mythological Significance and Cultural Reverence

Lord Hanuman is celebrated in the epic Ramayana as the devoted follower of Lord Rama. His extraordinary feats include leaping across the ocean to Lanka in search of Sita, carrying the entire Sanjeevani mountain to save Lakshmana's life, and fighting valiantly against the demon king Ravana. He is revered as a Brahmachari (celibate monk), a symbol of selfless service, and a protector against negative forces. His ability to change form at will and his intelligence are also key aspects of his divine persona. This figurine, with its representation of Hanuman holding the Sanjeevani mountain (or possibly a mountain-top he stands upon), evokes these powerful narratives and inspires a sense of awe and respect for this divine warrior. ––––––––––

The Mighty Hanuman: Exploring the Legends and Significance of the Monkey God

Hanuman is mentioned in several Vedic works of literature such as the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Srimad Bhagavatam. He is the dearest devotee of Lord Ramachandra, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is always engaged in the service of the Lord and the Lord always looks out for Hanuman every moment. Hanuman is often depicted tearing apart his chest and an image of Ram and Sita is seen which means that He is always absorbed in the transcendental thoughts of Shri Shri Sita Ram. In the Vaishnava traditions or Sampradayas, Hanuman plays a huge role in the spiritual life of a Sadhaka. Without getting the mercy of Hanuman, no one can get closer to Lord Ram. He is the very personification of devotion and dedication.

He has a monkeylike form and is bestowed with extraordinary powers and capabilities. But He does not use his powers to show to others, rather, he uses them in the service of Sita and Ram. The devotees of Ram always follow in the footsteps of Sri Hanuman to become sincere servants of the Lord.
