Divine Protection and Prosperity

This exquisite copper statue presents a powerful and auspicious tableau from Hindu mythology. At its center sits Lakshmi-Narasimha, a unique and revered manifestation of Lord Vishnu. Narasimha, the half-man, half-lion avatar, is known for his fierce protection of devotees and his role in vanquishing evil. Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, prosperity, and auspiciousness, sits gracefully on his lap, a symbol of divine grace and abundance. Together, they represent the perfect balance of power and compassion, strength and fortune. This combined form provides not only divine protection but also ensures all-round prosperity and happiness to devotees.

The Narasimha Avatar and its Significance

The story of Narasimha is a captivating tale of devotion and divine intervention. Prahlada, a young devotee of Vishnu, was persecuted by his demon king father, Hiranyakashipu, who forbade the worship of Vishnu. When Hiranyakashipu challenged Prahlada to prove that Vishnu was present everywhere, Narasimha emerged from a pillar, disproving the demon king’s claims. Crucially, Narasimha appeared at twilight, neither day nor night, on the threshold of a doorway, neither inside nor outside, and placed Hiranyakashipu on his lap, neither on land nor in the sky, and killed him with his nails, using no weapon. This fulfilled all the boons that Hiranyakashipu had received, which made him practically invincible.

Guardian Deities: Hanuman and Garuda

Flanking Lakshmi-Narasimha are two equally important figures: Hanuman, the devoted monkey god, and Garuda, the majestic eagle. Hanuman, a symbol of unwavering devotion, strength, and humility, stands in a posture of reverence, his hands folded in prayer. He represents selfless service and loyalty to the divine. Garuda, Vishnu’s vahana (mount), embodies courage, speed, and protection. He is often depicted carrying Vishnu and is revered for his power to overcome obstacles and negativity. Together, Hanuman and Garuda further amplify the protective and auspicious energies radiating from this statue. This ensures that the worshipper is protected from all directions and bestowed with the courage and strength to overcome all obstacles.
