Green Tara, the embodiment of Avalokiteshwara's compassion, is revered in Buddhism as the most beautiful and auspicious mother of all beings. The powerful Green Tara is shown in her iconic form in this magnificent gilded copper statue from Nepal. She is sitting majestically on a lotus throne and is decked out like a celestial queen. The soft dhoti, scarf, delicate necklace, earrings, and lovely traditional crown that adorn Green Tara are all accentuated by the glistening gilding of copper. With two blossoming lotuses in each hand, Green Tara makes the gestures of Vitarka (right) for teaching knowledge and Varada (left) for bestowing boons.
Tara's pitch-black hair frames her face, which is accentuated by her softly expanding eyes, which are artistically refined, filling the composition with her heavenly presence.
