The Embodiment of Compassion

This exquisite brass statue depicts Chenrezig, also known as Shadakshari Lokeshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. In Tibetan Buddhism, Chenrezig is the embodiment of all Buddhas' compassion and mercy. It is said that when the Great Bodhisattva first manifested in human form, he made a vow to free all sentient beings from suffering. His form as Shadakshari, meaning "Lord of Six Syllables," refers to the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum, the most sacred mantra in Tibetan Buddhism, which is believed to hold the essence of all teachings and to purify the mind and bring about spiritual awakening. The artistry of this statue is a testament to the profound devotion and skill involved in its creation. Cast in brass, the figure radiates a warm, timeless glow, inviting contemplation and reverence. Chenrezig is depicted with a serene countenance, eyes softly closed in meditation, radiating an aura of profound peace and boundless love. His hands are pressed together in the anjali mudra, a gesture of greeting and reverence, symbolizing the union of compassion and wisdom. ––––––––––

Symbolism and Form

The four arms of Chenrezig carry significant symbolism. The main hands in prayer represent the devotion to all beings. The upper right hand often holds a wish-fulfilling jewel, symbolizing the potential for enlightened actions to bring about happiness. The upper left hand clutches a lotus flower, a symbol of purity and spiritual blossoming, representing the awakening of compassion that arises from the muddy waters of samsara. The elaborate crown adorning his head signifies his high spiritual attainment and his role as a celestial being. The intricate detailing on his robes and ornaments speaks to the richness and beauty of the enlightened mind. The posture of the statue, seated in vajra or lotus position, is the classical meditative pose, signifying stability, balance, and the groundedness of enlightenment. The lotus base upon which he rests is a universal symbol of purity, rebirth, and the ability of the spirit to rise above earthly defilements. The entire composition emanates an energy of calm, protection, and unwavering love, making it a powerful object of meditation and a beautiful addition to any sacred space or home. ––––––––––

A Beacon of Hope

In times of hardship or uncertainty, the image of Chenrezig serves as a potent reminder of the inherent goodness and compassion that exists within all beings. The legend of Chenrezig's tears, which are said to have formed the lake of Namtso in Tibet when he wept for the suffering of the world, underscores his deep empathy. Invoking his name and meditating on his form is believed to alleviate suffering, purify negative karma, and cultivate loving-kindness towards oneself and others. This meticulously crafted brass statue offers a tangible connection to this powerful spiritual ideal, serving as a daily inspiration and a source of solace and wisdom.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
