The Embodiment of Compassion

This exquisite brass sculpture brings the serene presence of Kuan Yin into your home. Seated in a posture of tranquil meditation, this figure emanates peace and embodies the boundless compassion she represents. Her graceful form is intricately detailed, from the delicate folds of her robe to the gentle expression on her face. Placed on an altar, meditation space, or any area needing a touch of tranquility, this piece serves as a potent reminder of inner peace and the power of loving-kindness.

The Mythology of the Bodhisattva of Mercy

Kuan Yin, also known as Guanyin, Avalokiteśvara, or Quan Am in other cultures, is revered across East Asia as the Bodhisattva of Compassion. In Buddhist tradition, a Bodhisattva is an enlightened being who postpones their own nirvana to help others achieve enlightenment. Kuan Yin is the most widely beloved of all Buddhist deities, known for her immeasurable compassion and unwavering dedication to relieving suffering. Numerous legends surround Kuan Yin's origins. One of the most prevalent tales tells of a princess named Miao Shan, who refused to marry and instead chose to become a nun. Her father, the king, was displeased and tried to dissuade her, even resorting to violence. However, Miao Shan remained steadfast in her devotion. Eventually, she was executed. Upon her death, she descended into hell, where her compassion transformed the suffering of the damned. Because hell would have been emptied by her love, the ruler of hell sent her back to earth to live on Fragrant Mountain. Later, Miao Shan’s father fell ill with a terrible disease. He learned that the only cure was a potion made from the arm and eye of one who was free from anger. No one was willing to sacrifice themselves for him. Miao Shan, hearing of her father's plight, offered her own arm and eye without hesitation. The king was healed and, upon learning of his daughter's sacrifice, repented his earlier actions and embraced Buddhism. Miao Shan is said to have then ascended to Buddhahood as Kuan Yin, the Bodhisattva of Great Compassion.

The Lotus Throne

Observe how this image sits atop a lotus throne. The lotus flower is a symbol of purity, enlightenment, and spiritual awakening in Buddhist traditions. Its roots are mired in mud, yet it rises above the murky waters to bloom in exquisite beauty. This symbolizes the ability to transcend suffering and achieve enlightenment, even amidst the challenges of life. The presence of the lotus beneath Kuan Yin emphasizes her role as a guide, helping others to rise above their difficulties and find inner peace.

A Reminder of Inner Peace

This brass sculpture is more than just a decorative object; it is a tangible representation of compassion, serenity, and the potential for enlightenment within each of us. It serves as a focal point for meditation, a reminder of the power of loving-kindness, and a source of inspiration on the path to inner peace. Placed in your home, this sculpture invites you to cultivate compassion in your own life, offering comfort and hope to all who seek solace in its presence.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
