The Shiva
Linga, representing the formless aspect of Lord Shiva, finds its essence in the
Sanskrit word "linga," meaning a sign or symbol. Carved from the
enduring and resilient granite, it signifies the indestructible and everlasting
nature of the divine consciousness, beyond the limits of time and space. The
smooth and cylindrical form of the Shiva Linga
represents the divine pillar of creation and sustenance, while its rounded top,
known as the "purna ghata" or "purna kalasha," symbolises
the infinite and boundless aspect of the cosmos. It is a potent reminder that
the divine presence encompasses all aspects of creation, from the smallest atom
to the vast galaxies.
