Book Description
About The Book

Corruption had penetrated into our polity, business and finally into our cultural fabric. Corruption has deep struck roots in every soil form macro to micro level. Eradication of corruption is therefore, a Herculean task, haunting the minds of planners and policy makers in every country. India has the dubious of being one of the 10 most corrupt countries in the world. At the same time, India is a fertile land for the corrupt people because of lack of education and increasing poverty works as catalyst for the corrupt people grow rich. It is a matter of great concern that corruption in public services will poison the very spring of democracy. Particularly in a parliamentary form of the government. In India, government controls education, means of daily transportation, heavy industry like steel and automobile production, oil and gas production and distribution, public works departments, irrigation, banking, power generation and distribution, water purification and distribution, distribution of basic food commodities to individuals living below the poverty line, defense, hospitals, police, judiciary and dozens of other areas affecting its citizens' day-to-day life. Corruption in India can not be eradicated by questioning ethical standards of its population. Honest political leadership is a must as a first step. Supply of basic commodities has to be higher than the demand for general population to not bribe any government officials. Good governance entails the principles of transparency, accountability and participation. Within this context, the state (read: government) is in a key position but should not dominate. The strategies of eradicating it have acquired utmost importance. The relevance of the themes dealt in various chapters of the book is very high significance to the general problem of eradication of corruption from the public life. This book is a humble attempt to bring forth some measures to check the corruption and ensure good governance in India through different articles written by our scholars.
