About the Author

Colonel George Bruce Malleson (1825-1898), born in Wimbledon, received education at Winchester and joined the Bengal infantry in 1842, serving in the second Burmese War. His civil career included various appointments, culminating as guardian to the Maharaja of Mysore. Retiring in 1877 as a colonel, he earned the title of C.S.I. in 1872. A prolific writer, Malleson gained recognition with the "Red Pamphlet" during the Sepoy Mutiny. Notable works include completing Sir John Kaye's "History of the Indian Mutiny" and writing on French and Indian history. His Rulers of India series features biographies of Akbar, Dupleix, and Clive. Malleson's diverse historical writings include "History of Afghanistan" and works on military figures like Gideon Loudon.
