On 29 November 2006 we lost Prof Sanghal, an artist, philosopher and educator. The title of his book Evolation of Art and Artist is an inspiring view of art developed through a global background taking the best from the East and the West and developing his original aesthetic principles.
Prof Sukhvir Sanghal got his initial art education from his guru Prof. A.K. Halder. His paintings inspired by Ajanta explore Indian traditions, culture and his philosophy towards life. His landscapes though give us scenic view of Indian nature imbibe some technical principals from the West. Prof Sanghal was at heart, an earnest artist. His relationship with his work made him appear focused. He look at nature and man with not only emotions but also with this Inner self. For him the beauty of visual work arises from the beauty within.
In this work, Volume I deals with Indian philosophy in relation to art and evolution of various global schools of art. Volume II deals with aesthetics and his explanation of Indian aesthetic (rasa) theory which is clearly reflective in his paintings. Finally, Volume III deals with technical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual dimensions of art. It also discusses gradual developments influenced by aesthetical and philosophical evolutions in view of global artists, aestheticians and thinkers.
He often painted in seclusion and stayed away from the glare of publicity, giving us the opportunity of bringing his art heritage in front of the world. This posthumous anthology has been lovingly and painstakingly put together by his granddaughter, Ms. Priyam Chandra. It's a heartbreaking read of his delving deep into the realms of art
I hope this book conveys his philosophy and invokes in the minds of readers and art lovers a new dimension in art.
