Narrated here are knowledge-based true medical case studies put together in a book form. The book highlights the management of a disease episode, and discusses the medical, legal, ethical and social issues that arise; pose a dilemma and how they are dealt with. Juxtaposed in real-time situation, each of these issues provide a holistic insight in the disease episode, the narration being case specific, context specific and situation specific.
To physicians the stories provide contextual appreciation of law and ethics, and to lawyers the specific medical context in a case. To the patient and lay person the stories provide knowledge for proper understanding of a very complex situation. Consideration of each other's concern and constraints, it is hoped, will ease the apprehensions and help restore mutual trust. These knowledge based narrations from the field of modern medicine will be of interest to all.
Also included here are three true case-based terminal cancer patient stories from the local hospice. These stories highlight the powerful coping mechanism of patients who suffered from terminal cancer that was beyond any treatment.
In compiling all the stories I have been greatly helped by my medical, legal and other colleagues; without their input this book would not have been possible. I am deeply indebted to them.
