In the entire gamut of Yoga, the mind plays a pivotal role. Yoga is virtually all about control of the mind. Approximately, therefore a whole chapter has been devoted to the various faculties of the mind and what our sages thought about it. The mind controls the entire thought process, which is the central focus of Yoga.
Philosophy aims to acquire knowledge and realize the absolute truth. But the ultimate goal in Vedanta to realize absolute toughness or to achieve the path of mukti. Yoga belongs to the hoary past of India and is as old as any other philosophical or other thought or knowledge emanating from the ancient sages. The ancient literature is vast and varied. Scholars have worked hard to fix the period to which they belong. Most of the conclusions reached in this regard continue to remain as conjectures without any irrefutable evidence. One thing, however, is certain the Vedas are the oldest available literature in the world. The Vedic literature is vast and chronologically falls into four distinct categories, (i) the four Vedas i.e. Rgveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, and Atharvaveda, (ii) the Brahmaņas, (iii) Aranyakas and lastly (iv) the Upanisads. Scholars have traced Yoga to the Vedas. But there is no doubt that the last part of Vedic literature called the Upanisads or the Vedanta, in many places, was replaced with the subject of Yoga. Besides the literature classified as Puraņa, Tantra, and Daraana is abundantly full of Yoga. The present book deals with the concept of "Glimpses on the Dynamics of Yoga"- (the Yoga-meditation and pointed flame in the heart) as well as various Upanisads.
The asțsngayoga, as its name implies 'asta', meaning eight, and anga meaning 'part or limb', consists of eight parts beginning with yamas and culminating in samadhi. One chapter has been devoted to this particular book.
The breathing exercises and Yoga practice have a lot to do with the internal organs. To the extent that they are relevant to the Yoga effort, one full chapter has been devoted to the internal organs or mechanisms of the body such as 'cakras' (plexuses), etc., and their functions while doing Yoga.
It has been observed that success in Yoga is not possible unless the kundalini has been awakened. A full chapter has therefore been devoted to explaining the concept, the methodology, and various exercises that help in expeditious success in the awakening process of the kundalini.
It is unfortunate and yet true that the modern practitioners of yoga have brought down yoga to the level of a mere alternative system of physical exercises to maintain sound health. Therefore, a full chapter has been devoted to that aspect.
It is truly a pleasure to learn about Sagar Mantry's new book, Glimpses on the Dynamics of Yoga. This is the result of Sri Mantry's research into yoga philosophy. The study of yoga has indeed captured the attention of the general public all over the world. Everybody wants to be happy by practicing yoga and praṇayama every day. People worldwide are experiencing stress and seek to alleviate it through yoga practice. Therefore, significant efforts have been made in this area, and yoga is no longer limited to yogis and sadhakas seated in caves. Every house now practices yoga daily, and people are taking their diet, health, and weight reduction seriously. Yoga has an extraordinary healing potential for both body and mind. Yoga not only corrects structural imbalances in the body, but it also significantly enhances psychic function. In addition, through meditation, yoga treats nervous disorders, emotional tension, and psychological difficulties of all types from stress. As we can see in this book, the author has ad-dressed all the previously mentioned points, there-by clarifying the necessity of writing this book. The tenets of yoga and its branches, the eight steps of yoga, Bandha, Mudra, etc. have been nicely dis-cussed here. Practitioners prioritize the importance of diet in yoga. The spiritual aspect plays a crucial role in leading a peaceful life. Even in the Jnana, Bhakti, Raja, Svara, and Kundalini Yoga, the essence is the body and mind if put together in a balanced way, then only one can achieve the target in Yoga. The author has methodically approached this topic. The author has also included the tantric practices of yoga in this discussion, along with a description of its secrets. Even through this, one can attain Mokşa, the end of our supreme goal. When discussing yoga, meditation plays a crucial role in relieving stress and guiding us towards a peaceful life. The purpose of this discussion is to grasp the concept of understanding each step of a journey. Hence, one should practice it effortlessly. When the mind is full of stressful thoughts, there is no space for mental health. Regular practice of meditation enhances the clarity of our thoughts. Hence, meditation can be an effective form of stress reduction and has the potential to improve quality of life and decrease healthcare costs. He has also given a detailed account of the dynamics of Bandha and Mudra and their necessity while practicing yoga. The book comprehensively explores various intricate aspects of yoga philosophy in its authentic form. The author of the present book, Sri Sagar Mantry, happens to be my student, and as far as I know, he is very honest and sincere in his study of Sanskrit and Yoga. This was possible because of his hard work uncovering yoga's secrets. He has proven himself to be a dedicated student who wants to learn more and serve the community as a yoga and naturopathy teacher. This work can help yoga students understand yoga's dynamics from a unique perspective.
Finally, I congratulate him on his efforts to bring out this book today and wish him success in his endeavor.
