Book Description
About the Book
The book "Hindu Society at the Crossroads," penned by a highly qualified and experienced author, explores the profound transformation experienced by the Hindu people. The author delves into the institutions of Hindu society, contending that they are entirely grounded in law and custom, making them inherently secular. In the current political landscape, the author's analysis of Hindu society becomes essential reading, shedding light on the why, how, and what of this transformation.

About the Author
Kavalam Madhava Panikkar (3 June 1895-10 December 1963) known as Sardar K. M. Panikkar was an Indian statesman, diplomat, professor, editor, historian, and novelist. Born in Travancore, he became the editor of Hindustan Times and later served as Foreign Minister and Prime Minister in princely states. Post-independence, he represented India at the UN, served as India's Ambassador to China and Egypt, and was a member of the States Reorganisation Commission. He excelled academically, publishing extensively on Indian history, politics, and international relations. His contributions extend to literature, with works in both Malayalam and English.

Introduction
The Hindu society is no longer at cross roads. Since the publication of this book in 1955 the Hindu people have made their choice and have elected to march along the road of progress. When the book was written legislative measures for changing the social structure of Hinduism were under the consideration of Parliament. Bills meant to provide Hindu society with uniform laws in such important matters as marriage and succession were under consideration. The Great Debate was on, but the decision, though never in doubt, had not been finally taken. Today these changes which, it may well be said revolutionize Hindu society, have been placed on the statute book without creating any social or political upheaval.
