Foreword
Jainism is an ancient religion. Its contribution is considerable and inseparable from Indian culture. The ideologies of Jainism run parallel to the vedic and non-vedic schools of thought and subscribed to the growth of philosophical ideas, and contributed to the development of various fields like literature, art, architecture, etc. Its contribution is immense in the growth of regional languages since it has chosen the local language as the medium to communicate its ideology to the masses. Further it has laid much stress on a practical good conduct and perfect way of life for the humans. Therefore Jainism is an Ethical Realism and it was virtually proved by the Tirthasa The followers of Jainism made the lives of the twenty four Tirthankarus as a role model to be adopted and adhered to. Since Rsabha is referred to in the Agueda and the latter mentions him as the ninth incarnation of Visnu it is believed that he must have lived long before the compilation of Rgueda. The Rueda and Yajurveda refer to the names of Rsabha, Supariva and Neminatha. The Brahmanda, Märkendeya, Bhagavata puranas refer to Rsabhanatha. Thus the antiquity of Jainism goes back to the pre-Vedic times. As pointed above the contributions of Jainism is remarkable and immense to Indian Culture. Many scholars like A.M. Ghatage, C. Sivaramamurti, V.A. Smith, B.C. Bhattacharya, J.P. Jain, U.P. Shah, P.B. Desai, A. Ghosh, S. Gopala Krishna Murthy, T.G. Prasad, Kalghatgi, T.K. Tukol, Hiralal Jain, Jacobi Hermann, Nagarajaiah Hampa, M.N.P. Tiwari and others wrote extensively on the various aspects of Jainism. G. Jawaharlal, P. Hema and others have made sincere efforts to study different aspects Jainism confined to the areas of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Preface
Jainism is a very active religious sect in India and spreads almost in all states including Telugu Land (States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana). Its religious principles, philosophy, art and architecture are developed in both the states to a considerable extent.
