Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology was set up on 1st October by the Presidential order of 1960, through a resolution of the Government of India to propagate and expansion of knowledge and production of university level text books in Indian languages. Various efforts have been made by the CSTT in relation to evolve technical terminologies in various subjects, Pan-Indian Terminologies, Definitional Dictionaries, Monographs, Digests, Readings and production of university level text books. In this series, Comprehensive Glossary of Humanities and Social Sciences has been published.
India is a multilingual country and its treasure of knowledge is available in Sanskrit and Hindi alongwith all other Indian languages. Therefore, CSTT has already published glossaries, definitional dictionaries, university level text books in various subjects in Hindi and other Indian languages as Economics (English-Bodo), Medical (English-Odia), History (English-Orria) etc and simultaneously the works in other Indian languages in various subjects like Assamia, Telugu, Santhali, Manipuri, Punjabi, Gujarati is going on. The objective of the CSTT is to prepare glossaries, definitional dictionaries, study material in all other Indian languages. Keeping in view of these objectives, CSTT started preparing glossaries, definitional dictionaries in other Indian languages also. Under this scheme, the Glossary of Library and Information Science in Tamil language is being published.
