About the Book
Manto My Love is an anthology of the selected writings of Saadat Hasan Manto, renowned Urdu writer of the Indian subcontinent. It offers a wide range of Manto's works including his short stories, radio plays, essays, humorous writings, letters and even his written defences filed in courts of law. The text has been divided into several sections juxtaposing pieces of writing composed across time and space. This gives the work a unique synergy.

It also provides us a rare glimpse of Manto for instance, when he looks at himself critically from someone else's prism in the eponymous essay "Manto". Also included are nine of his stories including "Naya Kanoon", "Toba Tek Singh" and "Smell", all written with a rare finesse. The book is divided into several thematic sections. Highlights of some sections are:

• Essays-"Why and How do I write a Story" and a radio play "Come Let's Write a Story"

A peep into the nascent film industry in Mumbai - essays "Ashok Kumar" and "K.K."

• Essays "My Marriage" and the tongue-in-cheek sketch "Manto"

A choice selection of his well-known short stories Manto's black humour in a selection of essays and snippets on Partition

• Manto's letters to Uncle Sam and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru

This is an essential collection for anyone interested on Manto
