From her youth, Meera had thought herself married to Krishna, but political events transpired to force her to marry a price whose family worshiped the goddess Kali. Unable to conform to the religious rituals and unwilling to surrender to her husband’s desires, she became a liability to her in-laws and their royal stature. Choosing to accept death as penalty for her pure devotion, she disappeared forever into the temple. She is most remembered for her beautifully composed love songs about Krishna. The famous and beautiful Hema Malini portrays Meera with insight and grace.
