Book Description
About the Book
One Hundred Suns commemorates the centenary of the Narayana Gurukula, celebrating its growth from humble beginnings into a global movement dedicated to a contemplative life based on the wisdom teachings of Narayana Guru. Recognizing that "man does not live by bread alone", the Gurukula values enduring happiness through the guidance of the Guru's Word. This collection of articles provides readers with glimpses of timeless wisdom imparted through the guru-parampara, a lineage that has nourished generations of disciples. The Gurukula brings together individuals from all walks of life seniors and juniors, aspirants and adepts, Eastern and Western-bound by a shared commitment to unitive understanding. The personal factor in each case is intact, keeping dogma and credo at bay. True wisdom transcends distinctions of personal outlook or cultural background, making no divisions between optimism and pessimism, liberal and conservative, orthodox and heterodox, contemplative and active, or Eastern and Western. There is an urgent need for new literature that unifies rather than divides, that balances synthesis with analysis, and that introduces Absolutist norms to provide a steady frame of reference-without which, unchecked fragmentation persists. The articles in this souvenir represent a step toward integration and coherence, and are a testament to undivided perennial wisdom, lighting the way forward as we step into the next century grounded in enduring values, leading to lasting Happiness.

About the Author
Swami Vyasa Prasad is the current in-charge of the Narayana Gurukula in Fernhill, Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu. After completing his university education, he embarked on a spiritual journey, drawn to the wisdom teachings of the Bhagavadgita. This led to his first encounter with Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yati in 1979, an experience that inspired him to live and study under Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yati's guidance. Swami Vyasa Prasad was given sahnyasa in 1992 and went on to serve as the head of the Gita Ashram in Fiji from 1992 to 2000. Today, he dedicates himself to the study and contemplation of Narayana Guru's life and teachings, both through original works and the commentaries by Nataraja Guru, Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yati, and Guru Muni Narayana Prasad. Alongside his daily responsibilities, he contributes to the Gurukula's English publications. Initiated by Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yati, Swami Vyasa Prasad is interested in understanding, preserving, living, revaluing and sharing Narayana Guru's contemplative philosophy.

Preface
FOUNDED by Nataraja Guru in 1923, we celebrate 100 years of history and achievements of the Narayana Gurukula. It is with a sense of gratitude that we present this collection of articles in our Centenary Souvenir. This publication is a tribute to the past, a celebration of the present and a beacon for the future, capturing the essence of our journey over the last century. Narayana Gurukula, founded 100 years ago, was built on the vision of Narayana Guru and the unwavering commitment and tireless efforts of Nataraja Guru. He laid the foundation upon which we stand today. Over the decades, we have seen many changes, evolving from humble beginnings to adapt and embrace change while steadfastly holding on to our core values and principles. The articles within this Souvenir are a tapestry of stories, insights and reflections from a diverse array of voices. They chronicle the genesis and maturation of wisdom transforming into peaceful and meaningful lives. The unitive vision of Narayana Guru is the core value and foundation for our understanding. The groundbreaking achievement of Nataraja Guru is his lingua scientia, a scientific language for interpretation and integration of the mystical knowledge of the Guru's vision. This innovative stride characterizes the unique perspective of the Narayana Gurukula. This Souvenir includes contributions from senior disciples from India and the West, and current students. Their narratives not only highlight individual accomplishments but also underscore the collective spirit characteristic of the Gurukula.

Introduction
A CENTURY is less than a wink of the eye in the flux of eternity. But for humanity a century encompasses an entire lifetime. Nataraja Guru founded the Narayana Gurukula a century ago facing many difficulties establishing Gurukulas in various parts of the world wherever circumstances were conducive. Numerous challenges were overcome by boldly navigating uncharted waters. He called the Gurukulas "neutral islands of unitive understanding" where, by attention to the problems of the individual, all conflicts can be resolved. One can return to what is normal for human beings as nature or neutral reality would have it (Values vol. 1.1, p. 25). "Unitive understanding" is a term coined by Nataraja Guru when he was faced with the problem of finding an equivalent expression for what is known as advaita. Truth knows no boarders. Wisdom knows no distinction of personal attitudes such as optimist or pessimist, liberal or conservative, orthodox or heterodox, contemplative or active, Eastern or Western. The a priori and a posteriori, analytic and synthetic tendencies, harmonize in a central norm in the wisdom-seeker's way. Ends and means tally natively and universally when wisdom is fully finalized in terms of a self-happiness which aims at general well-being at the same time. (Wisdom, p. 3).
