About the Book:
THIS important book by His Holiness the Dalai Lama XIV gives an authentic account of the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism. It is hoped that its publication will contribute to a greater understanding of Tibetan culture.
The main part of the book is preceded by a short account of the spread of Buddhism in Tibet, also written by His Holiness. The whole range of Buddhist teachings as practised in Tibet is expounded with great clarity, yet with brevity.
The work has been translated from the Tibetan language by three Buddhist scholars who worked together at a Buddhist temple in Thailand: Thubten Kalzang Rinpoche from Tibet, a noted scholar of Sanskrit and Hindi; Bhikkhu Nagasena of India, whose knowledge of Pali and Siamese has earned him the title of Phra Maha; and Bhikkhu Khantipalo of England, whose books include Buddhism Explained and Tolerance.
