Book Description

About the Author Prof. Laxmi Narayan Gupta received his early education in Kanpur. In 1965, he did his MSc in Mathematics from Christ Church College. After spending a year at IIT Kanpur, he went to America in 1966. He did his PhD in Mathematics in 1962 from Buffalo Centre of State University of New York and was a professor of Mathematics at Rochester Institute of Technology from 1980 to 2009. He is retired since 2009. Dr Gupta was interested in literature since childhood. He had also written some poems during his adolescence. In 1991, when he came in contact with the then managing editor of the mouthpiece of International Hindi Samiti, Shri Ram Chaudhary, his creative tendencies were awakened again. After three years of effort, the translation of Gita was completed in 1996. Some poems have been published in Vishva, Vishwa-Vivek Bhashasetu and Hindi-Jagat. Many poems have also been published in electronic magazines like Anubhuti, Boloji, Kalayan, E-Kavita, Hindi-Forum, etc. A translation of Ishavasyopanishad is also available on Boloji. Guptaji's Hindi poems and essays can be read on his Hindi blog: "www.kavyakala.blogspot.com". His English poems and pondering can be read on his English blog: "laxmisponderings.blogspot.com".

Preface SEVERAL years after I had started my Hindi blog, I realized that I wanted to share my ideas with a wider audience. I wanted to reach my non-Hindi speaking friends both Indian and American. I started my English blog: laxmisponderings.blogspot.com. The first post was published on May 1, 2011 and is about the Hindu View of Creation. It included the way Hindus consider time, tremendously different from the Judeo-Christian view that God created the world around 6000 years ago. In the Hindu view, the creation is ongoing and the present cycle started some 14 billion years ago. I actually wrote my first English poem in the year 2000 to celebrate my wife's birthday. It is written in the style of Dr. Seuss, a childrens' writer. Next poem I wrote was to celebrate my retirement in 2009. Once the trend started, it continued and continues to this day. The blog came several years after I started writing poems in English. So the proper title of this collection should be: Poems and Ponderings. This is the title you are holding in your hands.
