Book Description
PREFACE

The post-Independence period in India has witnessed growing social tensions and conflicts in the rural areas in which factions have played an increasing role. This phenomenon needs probe because it has been an important factor retarding rural progress and development. In order to have a proper understanding of rural factionalism, it is relevant and important to study the antecedents and correlates of political orientation of the groups and individuals involved in factional activities. The present study seeks to explore the antecedents and correlates of political orientation of the rural people and the impact of the antecedents and correlates, both positive and negative, on rural progress and development. This study also attempts to examine the nature and genesis of rural factions: and factional conflicts.

Chapter I of this book is intended to serve both as an introduction and as a brief review of literature on the political orientation of the rural people in the background of the working of factions in the villages. Chapter II embodies the purpose of the study and different hypotheses formulated for verification. In Chapter III the method of study, nature of the sample, description of tools, techniques and procedures have been presented. In Chapter IV statistical verification of different hypotheses along with analyses of data and results have been discussed. Besides, attempt has been made to furnish plausible explanations for the findings. Finally, in Chapter V the summary and conclusions with a note on the limitation of this study and future perspectives have been presented.
