Book Description
About the Book
"The Punjab in Peace and War" is a historical narrative spanning from Runjit Singh's reign to the aftermath of the Sikh Wars. It delves into significant battles such as Moodki, Perozeshah, Aliwal, and Sobraon, offering insights into the regency period (1846-1848) and the call to arms. John Lawrence's leadership during events like Chillianwala and Gujrat is emphasized. The narrative explores the Mutiny, Punjab's loyalty, triumph, and subsequent collapse of peasant prosperity under machine rule. It covers river training, canals, colonies, and the frontier, culminating in the dismemberment of the Punjab.
