About The Book
River Daya is English translation of Daya Nadi, the Sahitya Akademi award winning Odia poetry collection by Gayatribala Panda. A profound work, the poems draw on the river Daya, near Bhubaneswar which is a silent witness to the Kalinga war. The river becomes the narrator, echoing pride, arrogance, destruction, defeat and victory associated with the war. More importantly, the poems become human meditations on the horrors of war, its lingering pain and the possibility of renewal, celebrating human values like friendship, love and peace that pulsates the Odia heart.
