Book Description
Foreword

We feel elated and very happy to present this souvenir brought out on the occasion of Centenary Celebrations of Dr. PV Parabrahma Sastry. The book contains the last article penned by him titled Brahmi - Om-Svastika and writeups of several intellectuals from his professional fraternity narrating their experiences and reminiscences. There are also some writeups from some stalwarts and luminaries having close association with Dr. PV Parabrahma Sastry.

The idea of centenary celebrations was first broached by Dr. P Viswanadham over a couple of years ago, which was taken very passively and not much attention was paid as we were not clear as to where we should begin and how to go about. This issue was again broached by Dr. NS Ramachandra Murthy who has given some broad framework of the event and in the process also involved Dr. E Sivanagi Reddy, who instantly and enthusiastically came forward for this cause. Later, Dr. P Chenna Reddy (who has brought out a felicitation volume in honour of my father titled "Brahmasri- Researches in Archaeology, History and Culture in the new Millenium" containing research articles by noted scholars) also volunteered for this cause.

The article Brahmi Om Svastika gives vivid spiritual explanation of the word Brahmi, which does not mean Brahma, the creator but to the Supreme soul. Om is explained as the combination A+ u+ma, A is the first alphabet, u is the last vowel and ma is the last consonant in pavarga. Om includes all vowels and consonants, i.e. all alphabets in the Vedas. This analogy is similar to the 'akshara' word we use in Telugu (and Hindi also). 'Aa' is the first letter of Telugu alphabets and ksha is the last letter in alphabets. Once we say aksahra, it implies all those that come in between as well and also several words derived from them. Further, Om is called Pranava = pra + nava which means the one that enables you to cross over in a better way.
