Identifying the place of this scene as the interior of a house in an Indian village, the background of the painting shows ethnic motifs painted on the dark wall. In the center of the painting are two beautiful damsels, adorned in the most appealing traditional Indian apparel- Ghaghra (skirt), choli (blouse), and chunri (scarf) embellished by lovely folk patterns. From their placement and demeanor in the painting, it is clear that the women, probable friends, are engaged in a conversation. The woman in the blue skirt holds grains of wheat in her hand, which she is putting between the Chakki or millstone for obtaining flour, some of which is highlighted by the white powder painted between the two wheels. A basket of remaining grains is placed near the woman. Behind the woman in the red skirt is a “Chaarpai” (“Chaar” four, “Payi” legged) - a traditional bed made out of jute ropes and wood.

The leisurely conversation of the two damsels is placed in a finely polished and carved wooden frame, decorated with blossoming floral vines that elegantly weave together the picturesqueness of the everyday.
