The divine Himalayan ascetic traverses through a stretch of relatively flat, grass-laden Earth. He is seated on the back of Nandi, an all-powerful bull that is His vahana as well as one of His greatest devotees. Nandi’s pristine complexion, like the unattainable peaks in the background, is symbolic of serenity and unshakable serenity.
The great Lord Shiva, mounted on the back of Nandi, is looking intently at a lifeless skull in His hands. In the other hand is His signature weapon, the trishoola (trident). The lower limbs are gathered in a rudimentary lalitasana, in keeping with traditional Indian iconography. His fiery red locks, unkempt and wild as they are, are spread about His broad shoulders.
Beneath the seated Lord Shiva is the skin of a tiger, that He has probably vanquished with His bare hands. He is wearing a tigerskin loincloth, which blends with the texture of the one beneath Him.
The landscape in the backdrop is formed of a simple, unassuming, almost watery gradient of pale green, pink, and blue.
