Venugoapala or Venu-Madhava is the form of Krishna celebrated in art and writing of India, as the source of a divine sweetness, that flows as the tunes of his Venu or flute. This enchanting acrylic on canvas painting by Arun Kumar inspired by the traditional Kerala murals, presents Venugoapala, in the heart of Vrindavana. The blue-skinned Lord Krishna stands in the magnificent Tribhanga or triple bent posture, holding the Venu close to his mouth and smiling peacefully. The cow standing behind him, gently licks his lotus feet, as a symbol of her affection for Gopala (the protector of cows).

Kerala murals are known the world over for the flowiness of their lines, emotive expressions of the subjects, and use of colors that create an animated effect in art, giving the effect of watching a theatre. Seeing Krishna play his flute, as nature celebrates the presence of the supreme god with blooming vines, this painting is the vision that fills the heart with Bhakti and Prema (devotion and affection).
