Ganesha: Remover of Obstacles

Ganesha, the elephant-headed god, is one of the most beloved and recognizable deities in the Hindu pantheon. Revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom, Ganesha is invoked at the beginning of rituals, ceremonies, and new ventures. His presence ensures success and removes impediments that may hinder progress. This beautifully crafted brass statue captures the essence of Ganesha's benevolent nature and symbolic significance. Often depicted with a large belly, which represents generosity and acceptance, and a single tusk, symbolizing the overcoming of duality, Ganesha is a figure of both immense power and gentle wisdom. His elephant head is said to have been acquired through a mythological tale of divine intervention and sacrifice, making him a symbol of wisdom, understanding, and discerning intellect. He is the embodiment of auspicious beginnings and positive energy.

Symbolism in Form

This statue shows Ganesha seated in a relaxed pose, radiating serenity and approachability. The four arms represent his immense power and ability to act in multiple realms simultaneously. Each hand holds a significant symbol. One hand holds a goad, symbolic of self-control and using intelligence to drive away ignorance and negative forces, another carries the Pasha (noose) which is used to cut down obstacles in life, another holds a sweet delicacy, often modaks, representing the sweetness of liberation and the rewards of spiritual pursuits. His fourth hand offers blessings and protection to devotees. A small mouse, Ganesha’s vahana (vehicle), sits near his feet. The mouse symbolizes desire, and Ganesha’s control over it represents mastery over one's desires and instincts. Seated upon a lotus base, Ganesha's presence is elevated, signifying purity, enlightenment, and spiritual awakening. The intricate detailing in the carving, from the floral patterns on his garments to the elaborate crown adorning his head, reflects the skilled craftsmanship and devotion poured into creating this sacred representation. The lustrous brass finish adds a touch of elegance and timeless appeal. This depiction of Ganesha embodies a beautiful blend of power, wisdom, and approachability, making it a perfect addition to any home or sacred space.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
