Lord Buddha was born into a royal family, the Shakya clan, from the contemporary Indo-Nepal border. He renounced his noble ancestry as a young man and adopted the life of an ascetic vagabond.

The flaws of materialistic attachment, were recognized by Buddha. The brass statue of Gautam Buddha preaching his dhamma sits in padmasana on a jet black lotus plinth decorated in an amazingly blended pattern with the lotus leaves highlighted with amber-gold colour.

He holds a bowl of alms in his left hand and the right hand rests on his right knee in Varada mudra. Buddha’s every hand gesture symbolizes a unique and spiritual meaning.

Aside from the spiritual qualities of this sculpture, pay attention to the aesthetic characteristics that the sculptor has underlined with the use of clean polished brass work. He is dressed in an amber gold robe that contrasts beautifully with the enlightened one's bodice.

The Noble Preacher of Truth

Behold a magnificent representation of Lord Buddha, captured in a moment of profound teaching. This striking brass statue, standing at an impressive height, embodies the serene wisdom and boundless compassion of the enlightened one. The contrast between the dark, almost obsidian finish of the Buddha's face and upper body, and the lustrous golden hue of his robes, creates a captivating visual dynamic. The finely rendered details of his monastic attire, adorned with intricate borders, speak to the skill of the artisan and the reverence with which this piece was crafted. ––––––––––

A Gesture of Enlightenment

The right hand of the Buddha is raised in the Abhaya Mudra, a gesture universally recognized as one of fearlessness, protection, and reassurance. It signifies the Buddha's power to dispel all doubts and anxieties, offering solace and refuge to all beings. In his left hand, he cradles a small alms bowl, symbolizing his renunciation of worldly possessions and his commitment to a life of simplicity and service. This posture, known as the Dharma Chakra Mudra in some traditions, is often interpreted as the turning of the Wheel of Dharma, the first sermon delivered by the Buddha at Sarnath after achieving enlightenment. This sermon, the "Setting in Motion the Wheel of Truth," expounded the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, the foundational teachings of Buddhism. ––––––––––

Crafted with Devotion

This exceptional statue is meticulously handcrafted from brass, a material long revered in Asian art for its durability and ability to capture intricate detail. The process of lost-wax casting, a technique steeped in ancient tradition, was likely employed to create this masterpiece. This method ensures that every nuance, from the gentle curve of the lips to the subtle folds of the robes, is rendered with remarkable fidelity. The darkened patina on the face and upper body suggests a deliberate artistic choice to highlight the Buddha's profound introspection and divine nature, while the shimmering gold evokes his radiant wisdom and the golden age of spiritual discovery he ushered in. The lotus-adorned pedestal further elevates the divinity of the figure, as the lotus is a potent symbol in Buddhism, representing purity, spiritual awakening, and the unfolding of consciousness, rising unstained from the mud of worldly attachments. This statue is more than just an object of beauty; it is a tangible connection to the spiritual heart of Buddhism, a reminder of the path to peace and enlightenment.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
