In Vaishnavism tradition, Lord Perumal, an embodiment of Lord Vishnu, is considered as the supreme God. Lord Perumal is traditionally the deity associated with the forests. Perumal, a union of “Perum” meaning Great and “al” denoting the divine, emerges as the “great god”, showering blessings on devoted souls. Adorned in regal attire, Lord Perumal stands on a lotus pedestal, symbolising purity and transcendence. Carrying the powerful Sudarshan Chakra and Shankha, He signifies his role as the sustainer and preserver of the Universe.

Kaumodaki (Mace) in his hand represents his role as the destroyer of all opponents. This artwork, crafted in Panchaloha bronze from “Swamimalai” using the ancient “Madhuchista Vidhana (Lost-Wax) technique”, embodies grace and blessings, emphasising the omnipresent love that connects the Almighty with those who earnestly seek his divine embrace.

A Divine Presence: The Majestic Lord Perumal Statue

This magnificent bronze statue captures the divine essence of Lord Perumal, also known as Vishnu, the preserver and protector of the universe in Hindu mythology. Standing at an impressive height, the sculpture emanates an aura of peace, power, and cosmic balance. Lord Perumal is depicted in his benevolent form, with multiple arms extended, each holding significant symbols of his divine attributes. His serene expression and graceful posture invite contemplation and devotion, making this statue a powerful focal point for any sacred space or collection. ––––––––––

Crafted with Ancient Wisdom: The Art of Panchaloha and Lost-Wax Casting

This exceptional piece is a testament to the enduring legacy of traditional Indian craftsmanship. It is meticulously created using the Panchaloha method, a sacred practice involving the alloying of five precious metals: gold, silver, copper, zinc, and tin. This ancient technique is believed to imbue the idol with potent spiritual energy. The Madhuchista Vidhana, or lost-wax casting process, is employed to achieve the intricate details and seamless finish that define this sculpture. Originating from Swamimalai, a renowned center for bronze icon-making, this statue embodies centuries of artistic skill passed down through generations. The lost-wax method, dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization, involves creating a wax model, encasing it in clay, heating it to melt away the wax, and then pouring molten bronze into the void. The result is a solid, durable, and exquisitely detailed bronze idol that reflects the divinity it represents. ––––––––––

Symbolism and Significance

Lord Perumal, as the Supreme Being, is revered as the ultimate reality from whom all existence emanates. He is often depicted with four arms, each holding a distinct emblem: the Sudarshana Chakra (discus) symbolizing the mind and the cyclical nature of time; the Panchajanya Shankha (conch shell) representing cosmic sound and the primal creative force; the Gada (mace) signifying his power and authority; and the Padma (lotus) representing purity and spiritual awakening. In this particular depiction, the presence of these sacred symbols underscores Lord Perumal's omnipresence and his role in maintaining cosmic order. The conch, when blown, is said to dispel negativity, while the discus can cut through ignorance and illusion. The mace represents strength and the ability to overcome obstacles, and the lotus signifies untainted beauty and spiritual enlightenment. His raised hand in the Abhaya Mudra offers blessings and protection, assuring devotees of his unwavering support and grace. This statue serves not only as an object of worship but also as a constant reminder of the divine presence that governs the universe and guides all beings towards righteousness and salvation.
