The respected “Lord Subramanya”, also known as Karttikeya, is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and the leader of the heavenly army. Lord Subramanya is portrayed as a young, chivalrous god who frequently rides a peacock. Valli and Devasena are his divine consorts. The celestial powers are represented by Devasena, who is also regarded as the gods' monarch Indra's daughter. The tribal princess Valli, on the other hand, marries Lord Subramanya. Devasena and Valli represent the divine feminine energy as a pair and are examples of adoration and love for the divine.

The Divine Union: Lord Kartikeya with Devasena and Valli

This exquisite Panchaloha bronze sculpture captures the divine essence of Lord Kartikeya, also known as Murugan, Skanda, or Subrahmanya, the Hindu god of war and the commander of the celestial armies. He is depicted here in the company of his consorts, Devasena, the goddess of divine strength and beauty, and Valli, the embodiment of devotion and earthly love. This magnificent triad represents a powerful symbol of divine partnership, strength, and the harmonious balance of celestial and earthly realms. The craftsmanship of this statue is a testament to the ancient and revered art of Panchaloha bronze casting, a technique that uses five sacred metals – gold, silver, copper, tin, and iron – to create pieces of enduring beauty and spiritual significance. The Swamimalai tradition of bronze casting, renowned for its intricate detailing and timeless aesthetics, has been meticulously applied to bring this divine tableau to life. Each figure is rendered with remarkable precision, from the delicate ornamentation of their attire to the serene expressions on their faces. ––––––––––––––––––

A Pantheon of Power and Love

Lord Kartikeya is a central figure in Hindu mythology, born from the divine seed of Lord Shiva and the grace of the gods to defeat the demon Surapadman. His divine mother, Goddess Parvati, entrusted his upbringing to the Pleiades (Krittikas), hence his name Kartikeya. He is often depicted with his vehicle, the peacock, a symbol of his victory over ego and the splendor of his divine power, which is subtly hinted at with the presence of a peacock in the central figure's composition. His consorts, Devasena and Valli, represent two crucial aspects of his divine narrative. Devasena, who represents divine power and a deeper spiritual connection, is said to have married him after he demonstrated his strength. Valli, a mortal princess raised in the forest, embodies unwavering devotion and the grounding force of earthly love. Together, they form a complete representation of Kartikeya's multifaceted divinity. This sculpted trinity invokes blessings of courage, protection, prosperity, and enduring relationships.
