The Varna Sutra defines Yali’s as the mighty mythical creatures who protect human beings and deities. It is a common occurrence to find a Yali image on the entrances of the temples and houses. This five-wick brass candle stand infuses the protecting ability of the Yalis with that of the fire and allows the cleansing of space with these attributes. This candle stand is a unique piece of ritual object that works as a tribute to the Pancha Bhootas and helps bring peace and happiness when we place fire in the form of a wick or candle on the five containers.

Its sturdy construction ensures longevity, while its intricate design speaks volumes of the artisan's skill.

Guardians of Light: The Symbolism of the Yali

The Yali, a mythical creature often depicted as a lion with the head of an elephant or other exotic animals, is a powerful symbol in Indian iconography. Revered as a guardian and protector, the Yali is believed to ward off evil spirits and negativity. In this lamp, the presence of the Yali motif carved into its structure imbues the flame with an added layer of auspiciousness. These fantastical beasts, often found adorning temple pillars and gateways, represent strength, courage, and divine power. Their inclusion here signifies that the light emanating from this lamp not only dispels darkness but also protects and blesses the space it illuminates. The five wicks themselves can be seen as representing the five vital elements of life or the five cardinal directions, further enhancing the lamp's sacred significance.

A Legacy of Craftsmanship: Handmade in India

Each of these Yali lamps is a unique work of art, brought to life by the skilled hands of Indian artisans. The process of creating such a piece is steeped in tradition, passed down through generations. From the initial casting of the brass to the final polish, every step is performed with precision and care. This dedication to traditional techniques ensures that each lamp possesses its own individual character and subtle variations, making it a truly one-of-a-kind treasure. The use of brass, a metal revered for its purity and auspiciousness in Hindu traditions, adds to the spiritual value of this handcrafted item. Owning this lamp is not just acquiring a decorative object, but connecting with a rich cultural legacy and supporting the continuation of ancient artisanal practices.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
