Embodiment of Compassion and Swift Aid

This exquisite brass sculpture captures the serene yet powerful presence of Green Tara, a revered deity in Tibetan Buddhism. Known as the "Mother of Liberation," Green Tara is the female manifestation of the Bodhisattva of Compassion. She is depicted in a posture of dynamic grace, poised to descend from her lotus seat to offer assistance and protection to all beings. Her serene countenance radiates wisdom and loving-kindness, inviting contemplation and devotion.

Symbolism and Iconography

The iconography of Green Tara is rich with symbolic meaning. She is typically shown seated in the lotus position, with her left leg drawn up and her right leg extended, ready to spring into action. This posture symbolizes her readiness to arise and help those who call upon her. In her left hand, she holds a lotus flower, representing purity and spiritual awakening. The right hand is often shown in the gesture of *varada mudra*, the boon-granting gesture, signifying her generosity and the granting of wishes. The presence of two lotuses, one in full bloom and one a bud, signifies the past, present, and future Buddhas, and Tara's connection to all of them. The intricate details of her crown and ornaments highlight her divine status and the wealth of her compassion.

A Divine Protector

In Buddhist lore, Green Tara emerged from a tear shed by the compassionate Avalokiteshvara. Witnessing the suffering of sentient beings, his tear transformed into a lake, from which a lotus blossomed, revealing the goddess. She vowed to always appear in the form of a female deity to offer succor and enlightenment, and thus became the embodiment of swift action and protection against fear, delusion, and obstacles. Devotees pray to her for courage, wisdom, and the overcoming of difficulties. This sculpture serves as a tangible representation of her compassionate energy and her promise to guide us through the darkness towards liberation.

Artistry and Craftsmanship

Handcrafted in India, this remarkable statue is a testament to the skill and devotion of its artisans. Cast in durable brass, the metal has been meticulously shaped and detailed to bring forth the divine form of Green Tara. The patina and subtle variations in the bronze create a sense of depth and ancient reverence. This piece is not merely a decorative object but a sacred artifact, imbued with the spirit of Buddhist tradition and the rich artistic heritage of India. It is perfect for altars, meditation spaces, or as a source of inspiration and tranquility in any home.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
