See It In Your Home

A multi-medium temple umbrella to grace your home or office temple deities. Made in keeping with the style of ancient South Indian temples. An ornate parasol such as the one you see on this page would look great poised over the crown of one of our South Indian-made murtis.

It is a colourful parasol featuring vivid shades of green, blue, gold, and scarlet. The canopy of the parasol is woven from superior velvet fabric, which lends it a soft, luxuriant texture. It is divided into solid-coloured panels. Each of the panels has an image of a popular Hindu deity embossed on it with lustrous gold fabric.

Along the hem of the temple parasol is a series of tassels. These tassels are also multicoloured, and are dangling from a crocheted network. This temple parasol has an especially long wooden handle, to make space for a murti of substantial proportions. The pointed brass detail at the top of the parasol completes the composition.

A Royal Canopy of Divine Presence

This magnificent temple umbrella is a breathtaking testament to South Indian artistry and devotion. Crafted with the luxurious feel of velvet, the sturdy foundation of wood, and accents of metal, it evokes a sense of regality and sacredness. The canopy itself is a vibrant tapestry of colors, with rich red, deep green, and striking blue panels, each adorned with intricately depicted deities and symbols.

Guardians of the Sacred Realm

At the heart of this sacred umbrella are the revered figures that represent the divine pantheon. You'll find the valiant Karttikeya, the god of war and the son of Shiva, often depicted with his divine peacock mount, symbolizing courage and victory. Beside him stands Ganesha, the beloved elephant-headed god, the remover of obstacles and the patron of arts and sciences, whose presence is always auspicious. The ever-present Shiva Linga, the abstract representation of Lord Shiva, is a central motif, signifying cosmic creation and destruction, the primordial energy of the universe. Accompanying the Linga is Nandi, Shiva's loyal bull vahana, representing strength, devotion, and dharma. The graceful peacock, adorned in its resplendent plumage, is a recurring symbol, associated with divine beauty, grace, and the celestial chariot of Karttikeya. These figures, rendered with exquisite detail, transform the umbrella from a mere object into a portable shrine, carrying the blessings of these deities wherever it goes.

Echoes of Tradition and Ritual

Umbrellas have always held significant cultural and religious importance across India, symbolizing royalty, prestige, and protection from the elements. In temples, they are often used during processions and religious ceremonies to honor deities, shielding them from the sun and bestowing upon them an aura of divine majesty. This particular umbrella, with its rich iconography, draws inspiration from the vibrant traditions of South Indian temple rituals. The use of velvet signifies opulence and devotion, while the metal finial at the apex, often polished to a gleam, catches the light and draws the eye upwards, towards the heavens. The profusion of colorful tassels cascading from the edge adds a festive and lively element, reminiscent of temple decorations during major festivals. This piece is not just an artifact; it is a living link to centuries of spiritual practice and artistic expression, designed to elevate any sacred space or ceremonial occasion.

A Symbol of Devotion and Grandeur

This South Indian Temple Umbrella is more than just a decorative item; it is an embodiment of faith, tradition, and artistic excellence. Its substantial size ensures a commanding presence, making it suitable for grand ceremonies, temple decorations, or as a focal point in a spiritual sanctuary. The meticulous craftsmanship, evident in every stitch and painted detail, speaks volumes about the dedication of the artisans who brought this divine vision to life. Whether used in a sacred ritual, displayed in a discerning collection, or as a statement piece in a culturally inspired setting, this umbrella is guaranteed to inspire awe and reverence, a tangible connection to the rich spiritual heritage of India.
