According to Madhvacharya’s Dvaita tradition, both Garuda and Hanuman are counted among the eternal parikaras or attendants of Vishnu. Together, they form the complete retinue of Vishnu in temples, often accompanying Sridevi and Bhudevi.

Both are adorned with exquisite precision, wearing kirtimukha waistbands and makara-shaped armbands, with Garuda marked by peacock feathers tucked behind his ears and Hanuman adorned with his characteristic globular kundalas, reflecting the meticulous attention to detail with which Chola bronzes treat ornamentation.

The two figures rise from lotus pedestals, their alert expressions and devoted gestures presenting them as powerful guardians of the sanctum and devotees par excellence. Both are slightly bent forward, as if in eternal obeisance to their Lord.

Divine Duo: Garuda and Hanuman

Behold, a captivating pairing embodying devotion and strength, meticulously crafted from Panchaloha bronze using the ancient Madhuchista Vidhana, or lost-wax technique. These statues capture the essence of two revered figures in Hindu mythology: Garuda and Hanuman, each standing at an impressive 25 inches in height. Worshipped for their unwavering loyalty and prowess, their presence radiates a sense of protection and auspiciousness. Garuda, the mighty eagle-vehicle (vahana) of Lord Vishnu, is often depicted as a powerful being with a human torso, wings, and an eagle's beak. Legend says he was born fully grown from his egg, possessing immense strength and a burning desire to free his mother from servitude. His story is a testament to courage, determination, and the power of filial duty. Garuda's association with Vishnu also symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and the flight towards spiritual liberation. His presence is believed to ward off negativity and bestow blessings of protection.

The Embodiment of Devotion and Strength

Hanuman, the devoted monkey-god, is celebrated for his unparalleled devotion to Lord Rama. His tales of bravery, selflessness, and immense strength are central to the Ramayana. Hanuman embodies the ideals of selfless service, unwavering faith, and complete surrender to the divine will. He is revered as a protector, a source of courage, and a bestower of wisdom. His image is often invoked to overcome obstacles, conquer fears, and attain success in all endeavors. Together, Garuda and Hanuman represent a powerful combination of forces. Garuda embodies speed, agility, and the ability to overcome any obstacle, while Hanuman exemplifies devotion, strength, and unwavering loyalty. Their combined presence creates a harmonious balance of power and grace, making them ideal deities to invoke for protection, strength, and spiritual growth.

Crafted in the Sacred Tradition

These exquisite statues are a testament to the skill and artistry of the craftsmen of Swamimalai, a town renowned for its bronze sculptures. The Madhuchista Vidhana, or lost-wax technique, is an ancient process passed down through generations, ensuring the creation of unparalleled detail and finesse. Panchaloha, the sacred alloy of five metals (gold, silver, copper, iron, and zinc), is believed to imbue the sculptures with positive energy and spiritual significance. Each statue is a unique work of art, reflecting the dedication and artistry of the artisans who meticulously brought these divine figures to life. The subtle variations and imperfections inherent in the handmade process add to their charm and authenticity. Their presence would bestow any space with a sense of spiritual significance, acting as a constant reminder of devotion, strength, and the triumph of good over evil.
