Introduction
"How you feel tomorrow depends on what you take today," reads one of the hoardings advertising a nerve-tonic.
How true are those words when applied to our daily life. Our tomorrows depend a great deal on our today’s and our today’s depend on what we do with our mornings. The first thing we do on getting up in the morning shapes the entire day. In most cases, we spoil our mornings by getting irritated over matters of trivial importance: and our day is wasted. We must be careful to begin the morning well and our day will be made.
There is a family of seven. At an early hour of the morning, all the seven meet together and begin the day by picking up a line from a scripture or a great thought of a great one. Then they close their eyes and thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed on them and ponder the great thought for a few minutes. Then every member of the family is given a chance to say something about the day's thought. To this family of seven, God is Real. They feel that God is within them and all around them, guiding them, guarding them, blessing them, leading them on.
Beginning the day with a thought of God should be the most important item in our daily routine.
I read concerning a busy man. He always had some urgent matters to attend to. In spite of his busy schedule, he found time, as he said, to speak to God the first thing in the morning and the last thing as he slipped into sleep. Early one morning, he was told that he had an important visitor. "Let him wait in ante-room," he said: "I have an appointment with God". We may have a number of appointments to keep every day. Let us never forget to keep our appointment with God.
Everyday, preferably at the same time and the same place, let us go and sit in silence. To begin with, for fifteen minutes, then gradually the period may be increased to at least one hour.
In silence, let us pray, meditate, engage ourselves in a loving and intimate conversation with God, do our spiritual thinking.
