"पुस्तक परिचय 'धर्मवीर भारती के पत्र: पुष्पा भारती के नाम' एक ऐसे कालजयी रचनाकार के अन्तरंग का आलोक है जिसने भारतीय साहित्य को अभिनव आकाश प्रदान किए हैं। धर्मवीर भारती के ये पत्र भावना की शिखरमुखी ऊर्जा से आप्लावित हैं। अपने साहित्य में प्रेम की अद्भुत व्याख्या के लिए भारती सुपरिचित हैं। इन पत्रों में प्रेम की अनेकायामिता अभिव्यक्ति का पवित्र प्रतिमान निर्मित करती है। यही कारण है कि ये पत्र दैनन्दिन जीवन का व्यक्तिगत लेखा जोखा मात्र नहीं हैं। 'सम्बोधित' के प्रति समग्र समर्पण और उसके हितचिन्तक की प्रेमिल पराकाष्ठा इनकी विशेषता है। पुष्पा भारती को धर्मवीर भारती न जाने कितने विशेषणों में पुकारते हैं। 'मेरी सब कुछ, मेरी एकमात्र अन्तरंग मित्र, मेरी कला, मेरी उपलब्धि, मेरे जीवन का नशा, मेरी दृष्टि की गहराई' के लिए ये पत्र लिखे गये हैं। इस प्रक्रिया में जीवन, साहित्य, दर्शन व मनोविज्ञान आदि के अनेकानेक पक्ष इस प्रकार उद्घाटित होते हैं कि पाठक का मन अलौकिक ज्ञानानन्द से भर जाता है। विलक्षण रचनाकार धर्मवीर भारती के इन पत्रों को जिस प्रीति-प्रतीति के साथ पुष्पा भारती ने सँजोया है वह भी उल्लेखनीय है। यह भी कहना उचित है कि भारती-साहित्य को समझने में इन पत्रों से एक नया झरोखा खुल सकेगा।

प्रस्तावना माता-पिता से मिले सांस्कृतिक और साहित्यिक संस्कारों और परिवार की अथाह ममता व साज-सँवार के बीच बड़ा धुला-धुला, उजला, पारदर्शी और निर्द्वन्द्व जीवन जी रही थी मैं। कि अचानक अनचित्ते अनजाने ही नियति ने मुझे एक दूसरे ही प्रकार के रास्ते पर मोड़ दिया था। अभी उस मोड़ की ओर कदम बढ़े ही थे कि कलकत्ता विश्वविद्यालय से सम्बद्ध 'श्री शिक्षायतन कॉलेज' में डिग्री स्तर की छात्राओं को पढ़ाने का काम मिल गया और मैं लैक्चरर बनकर कलकत्ता चली गयी। तब शुरू हुआ प्रतिदिन एक पत्र मिलने का अटूट सिलसिला। पहले तो वही हुआ कि पत्र पढ़ा और फाड़ दिया- लेकिन धीरे-धीरे लगा कि अरे ये पत्र तो निज में एक साहित्यिक कृति जैसे हैं, तो उन्हें फाड़ा नहीं- सहेजने लगी। धीरे-धीरे संख्या हज़ार को पार कर गयी ! सन् 1997 में भारतीजी के जाने के बाद उनकी लिखी रचनाओं की एक-एक पंक्ति को कई-कई बार फिर-फिर पढ़ने में ही मन लगता था, वरना जीवन केवल एक बेमानी बोझ लगने लगा था- उनकी कविताएँ, कहानियाँ, निबन्ध आदि इतनी बार पढ़ डाले कि उनकी कई पुस्तकों ने भी रूप ले लिया और छपकर बिकने लगीं। उनका लिखा साहित्य पढ़ते रहने के अतिरिक्त मेरी दिनचर्या का अनिवार्य अंग बन गयी थी मेरी वह मंजूषा जिसमें वे हज़ारों ख़त होरा-मोती, मानिक, पन्ना, पुखराज की तरह सहेजकर रखे हुए थे। एक दिन मुझे याद आयी मैथिलीशरण गुप्त की 'विष्णुप्रिया' की एक पंक्ति ""मेरे प्रभु सबके हों- मैं उन्हीं की रहूँ।"" और मुझे लगा इन अमूल्य ख़तों पर कुंडली मारकर बैठे रहने का हक़ मुझे नहीं है- यह उन असंख्य पाठकों तक भी पहुँचने चाहिए जो भारतीजी के लेखन को दिलोजान से पसन्द करते हैं।
