Many Scientists and Economists have discussed the technological and economic aspects of Indian Tea Industry. While the analysis made by them are mostly general in nature, only few studies have taken care of the regional differences prevailing in different tea growing areas of India. In fact problems faced by the South Indian Tea Industry are, in many cases, different from that of the problems faced by the tea producers of Assam Valley. Again different economic and technical fac-tors which influence the tea production of Dooars in West Bengal are not the same for Darjeeling tea plantation districts.
In view of the such inherent regional variation, an attempt has been made to identify the different climatic, technical and economic factors which are responsible for growth in tea production in 'Dooar's of West Bengal.
There is a wide variation in yield of made tea amongst the tea producers of Dooars. The present study aims at to identify the factors (whether technical or economic) which are responsible for such variation. This study utilises published as well as unpublished data from different sources. It also makes use of primary data collected from different estates. Perhaps, this book, for the first time presents a systematic and scientific analysis on impact of age of tea bushes on yield of tea.
This book is a slightly revised version of the doctoral dissertation in Economics written for Rabindra Bharati University. It has been prepared for use as a reference book for students and research scholars engaged in the study of Indian Tea Industry. It has also provided interesting and useful information for persons engaged in tea production and trade.
