The Awakened One: A Vision of Enlightenment

Encounter the profound serenity and wisdom embodied in this meticulously crafted brass statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. Depicted in a seated posture upon an intricately detailed lotus pedestal, the Buddha is shown in a moment of Dharma interpretation. One hand is raised in the Abhaya Mudra, the gesture of fearlessness and protection, bestowing blessings upon all sentient beings. The other hand holds a bowl, symbolizing alms and detachment from material possessions. The statue showcases a mastery of traditional Indian craftsmanship, reflecting centuries of artistic and spiritual heritage.

The Legend of Shakyamuni

Siddhartha Gautama, the historical Buddha, was born a prince in Lumbini, Nepal. Prophecies foretold his destiny as either a great king or a renunciate. Shielded from suffering, he lived a life of privilege until encounters with old age, sickness, and death awakened him to the impermanence of life. He renounced his royal life, embarking on a quest for enlightenment. After years of asceticism and meditation, he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India, becoming the Shakyamuni Buddha – the "Sage of the Shakyas." His teachings, known as the Dharma, offer a path to liberation from suffering through understanding the Four Noble Truths and following the Eightfold Path.

Craftsmanship and Symbolism

This handcrafted brass statue exemplifies the rich artistic traditions of India. Brass, revered for its durability and beauty, lends a warm, golden hue to the figure of the Buddha, symbolizing his awakened state and the radiant wisdom he embodies. The draping robes, meticulously detailed with intricate patterns, represent the monastic life and detachment from worldly concerns. The lotus pedestal, upon which the Buddha sits, symbolizes purity and spiritual awakening, rising above the muddy waters of samsara (the cycle of birth and death). The serene expression on the Buddha's face conveys compassion, wisdom, and inner peace, inspiring contemplation and devotion. Each element contributes to the overall representation of enlightenment, offering a tangible connection to the spiritual teachings of Buddhism. The ushnisha, the cranial protuberance at the top of the head, represents his wisdom and spiritual attainment, and the urna, the mark between his eyebrows, symbolizes his divine vision.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
