This superb feminine figure represents Goddess Lakshmi, who with a richly proportioned body, stands here with a swinging right hip. Dignified and graceful, this fine sculpture represents a high point in the annals of South Indian bronze casting, and very successfully captures the traditional Indian aesthetic of an ideal woman.

The fairly elongated face with sharp features faithfully follows the Chola aesthetic canons. A sharp nose is followed by the delicate lips, the lower one being the thicker of the two.

Of her four hands, the two in the front grant the boon of fearlessness and abundance respectively, while the rear arms very gracefully grip the long stems of two full-blown lotuses in their delicate fingers. A number of marvellous chokers adorn her neck, and a long necklace falls over her taut bosom, restrained by a thin band.

The Goddess wears a dhoti which clings to her legs, outlining their sturdy litheness. It is held together at the center with a wide and beautiful waistband. An array of tassels extends down the middle.

The artist has very deftly demonstrated his talent, and the entire sculpture is a maze of intricate carving, with curves being the dominant motif, whether it be the actual body of Lakshmi, or the labyrinth of swirling curls falling over each other to ornament her. Sinuous planes accentuate her inherent lush rotundity and fascinating contours confine her figure.

This sculpture is cast in an alloy known since ancient times as pancha-loha (five metals). These are:
a). Copper (the chief ingredient)
b). Silver
c). Gold
d). Brass
e). White Lead

Goddess of Fortune and Prosperity

Behold a manifestation of abundance and auspiciousness, a bronze statue of Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, fortune, love, beauty, joy, and prosperity. This exquisitely detailed sculpture, standing at 32 inches tall, serves as a powerful reminder of the potential for growth and prosperity that resides within us all. Cast in bronze, its very material resonates with permanence and enduring value, reflecting the eternal nature of the goddess's blessings.

Panchaloha Craftsmanship

This statue is crafted using the traditional Panchaloha method, an ancient Indian tradition employing five sacred metals - gold, silver, copper, zinc, and iron – blended in specific proportions. This meticulous process is not just about the materials used; it's about creating a powerful conduit for positive energy and divine presence. Panchaloha statues are highly revered for their ability to amplify spiritual vibrations and bestow blessings upon the home or space they inhabit. Each curve, line, and detail speaks to the skill and devotion of the artisans who poured their heart into bringing this vision of Lakshmi to life.

The Legend of Lakshmi

Lakshmi's origins are deeply rooted in Hindu mythology, emerging from the churning of the cosmic ocean, known as Samudra Manthan. This epic tale describes a time when the gods and demons cooperated (albeit reluctantly) to churn the ocean of milk, from which emerged a treasure trove of divine entities and objects, including Lakshmi herself. Her birth from the ocean symbolizes her association with abundance and the treasures that lie dormant, waiting to be uncovered. Her divine consort is Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, a union that represents the perfect balance of material and spiritual well-being. Where Vishnu is, there too is Lakshmi, an eternal symbol of dharma and prosperity together.

Symbolism and Iconography

Observe the intricate details of the statue. Lakshmi is typically depicted with four arms, each holding a symbolic object. In this manifestation, she holds lotus flowers in two of her hands. The lotus represents purity, enlightenment, and spiritual awakening, rising above the muddy waters of material existence. Her other hand is raised in the Abhaya Mudra, a gesture of reassurance and protection, bestowing blessings upon her devotees. Cascading fabric and carefully etched jewelry adorn her form, signifying beauty and grace. The pedestal upon which she stands, also adorned with lotus petals, grounds her divine presence in our earthly realm, inviting her blessings into our lives. The craftsmanship and artistry embodied in this bronze Lakshmi statue makes it a sacred addition to any home, temple, or meditation space. It is not merely a decorative object, but a powerful symbol of hope, abundance, and the potential for a life filled with prosperity and grace.
