I just love biography, and I'm fascinated by people who have shifted our destinies or our points of view.
Richard Attenborough
The magic of a biography works much deeper than we can perceive. It enhances self-awareness and encourages self-discovery. It gives us vital tools to deal with the real world in newer ways and with newer perspectives.
For enthusiastic seekers of values and life-lessons, the protagonists become virtual mentors. For history buffs, biographies stand out as a royal delight as the past is best experienced through characters than events. And for the literati, a biography is a quiet escape into an offbeat dimension of space and time.
The Woman Who Rebuilt is a stunning biography... and certainly much more!
It is the story of Draupadi, a powerful empress of the world who lived 5000 years ago. Till date, she is worshipped as a Goddess in many parts of India. Great sages and savants have uttered many sacrosanct affirmations that whoever reminisces her divine personality as described in the authentic ancient texts is blessed with great fortune.
However, owing to the unimaginable complexity of circumstances surrounding her life's story, over the centuries, her personality remained an enigma and a subject matter of questionable narratives. In presenting this work, I have therefore ensured that the foundation, the core content and the heart of the book is the authentic story, as given in the Mahabharatam compiled by Srila Vyasadeva.
The book began as my personal journey into understanding the finer details of the story and evolved into what you are holding in your hands today, passing through a series of illuminating discoveries I have made in the sacred process. A soul-nourishing journey indeed!
Oftentimes, an overemphasis on acute events like the fateful game of dice, to the extent of exclusion of the context, leads to biased interpretation of characters. To minimise such inadvertent errors in judgement, I have dedicated sufficient number of pages in building the background and portraying the true picture of the key personalities involved.
May the divine truths emerge through the natural flow of the story!
I have taken the verse-by-verse translation from the great work of MN Dutt. And for the major part of the analysis, I have referred to Andhra Mahabharatam by Kavi trayam, a phenomenal work in Telugu literature from the 11th century AD. For the family lineage of Draupadi, I have taken references from Srimad Bhagavatham, the ripened fruit of Vedic wisdom, as presented by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.
I have also gained valuable inspiration and insights from the discourses of Sriman Govinda Jee and the writings of Chaitanya Charan Prabhu.
This well-researched, enthralling story of Draupadi is further embellished with illuminations at the end of each of the eight chapters to augment the reader's experience! I heartily invite the reader to dive into the enchanting saga of the legendary heroic queen Draupadi!
