Preface
The Yogavasistha is a very bulky size famous book on Indian philosophy. It is known by several names, e.g. Jñänavasistha or Vasistha. This work has six chapters known as Prakaranas. They may be enumerated as under: Mahirimiyana. Arşaramiyana, Vasistharamayana.
Vairagya Prakarana- This describes disillusionment with the world. The issue discussed here is, whether jñāna (enlightenment) or karma (willful action) is more important in attaining liberation. The answer is that both are equally important, just as a bird needs both wings to fly.
