Ragamala is a cycle of texts and accompanying paintings that portray gods or mortals as they are affected by the emotions a particular raga expresses.

Raga Megha is blue-skinned Krishna blowing the conch to hail rain clouds. He adorns a stone encrusted crown and befitting jewelry. He wears a yellow robe which makes his blue body glow. Raga Megha deals with the pleasure of love in union. This raga is played during the rainy season, when clouds and brilliantly colored skies send lovers dancing in the rain. Rain is not only a seasonal weather feature but the harbinger of love making. It is the music of Krishna's conch that arouses the stormy skies. He looks at the clouds with an appeal in his eyes.

Standing at the banks of the river Yamuna, Krishna as Raga Megha has a spontaneous and an eminently youthful figure. The large tree and its branches are trying to touch Krishna with reverence. Grey clouds, by virtue of different shades, appear turbulent.

This picture owes its charm to the brilliance of its colors and liveliness of its figure.
