The religion of Vaishnavism and particularly the Radha-Krishna cult provided artists of all times with inspiration. Krishna is the incarnation of Vishnu, hence the attributes that the blue-bodied god holds here are Vishnu's conch, mace and lotus.

Vishnu and his consort are sitting atop Garuda, Vishnu's mount but the artist in his bid to make the work colourful, treats the bird in a manner to make it appear like a red beaked parrot. In its claw, the bird holds a wriggling snake. Vishnu is wearing a painted crown with lotus flowers on each point. Beside other jewellery, he wears a long garland of wild flowers. He has his one arm around Lakshmi's shoulder who sits in a posture of obeisance. She has her hands folded as she looks obediently at the god. She wears a green choli and a red ghagra with a diaphanous odhini.

There is delicacy and sensitivity in line combined with rare beauty of colour. The golden complexion of Lakshmi and the blue of Vishnu look extremely attractive over the bright green of the bird. The theme is set over a soothing ochre background with a subtle crackle effect, so that it does not disturb the peaceful effect of the art work, which not only has a spiritual effect but also sooths the eye.
